Diplôme d’études en langue française

DELF-DALF

DELF: Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française (Diploma of French Language Studies), A1 to B2 levels.

DALF: Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française (Advanced Diploma of French Language Studies), C1 and C2 levels.

  • Divided into six diplomas corresponding to the scale of the Common European Reference Framework for Languages: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2.
  • Issued by the French Ministry of Education, internationally recognised and valid for life.
  • Alliance Française of Port Elizabeth is the only accredited institution in Eastern Cape that delivers these diplomas.
  • Designed to assess the communicative skills of a candidate in a real-life situation, using authentic documents, rather than the linguistic and formal grammatical knowledge.
  • Examinations are independent, and candidates can register for the examination of their choice. Each examination evaluates the four communication skills: reading, listening, writing and speaking.
  • An average grade of 50 out of 100 points for each part of the exam is required to obtain the DELF-DALF.

EXAM SESSIONS FOR THE YEAR 2025

  • Classes canceled (by teachers) – Classes canceled by teachers (illness, personal impediment, etc.) and not replaced by the administration during the session will be made up for at the end of the session
  • Certification – A certificate will be issued at the end of the session to all students who have completed at least 70% of the course
  • Cannot follow lessons – If you cannot follow a lesson (illness, personal impediment, etc.), you must notify the administration 24 hours before the scheduled lesson time to be reimbursed
